I'm also considering what else I should do with the knowledge that I've learnt. Should I join another company? Should I set up my own consulting firm? In terms of my career, it has opened up a whole new world of opportunities.
Mr. Arifin was a systems administrator. However, since 1998, he found himself often encountering Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in his projects as a systems administrator.
Since then, Mr. Arifin grew more aware that IT skills and ERP experience are highly sought after in the industry. He chose to embark on a Professional Diploma in ERP (PDERP) because this program imparts the necessary skills which adds value to his expertise and competency in the IT field. "It provided a good match between my needs and what was available," he spoke of his decision to enroll in the program.
The decision to enroll in the program killed two birds with one stone for Mr. Arifin. On one hand, it enhanced his current skills set to aid him towards his career. Even with his previous ERP experience, Lithan Hall Academy's PDERP Program solidified and enhanced his ERP knowledge. He now has more confidence when speaking to clients and is able to provide more solid and workable solutions.
On the other hand, Mr. Arifin is empowered to consider a career transition to working with SAP Systems - "I have always wanted to work in an SAP environment,"he said. The program provides him with the opportunity to work in such an environment where he can maximise and put into practice his SAP ERP knowledge.
The ERP skills he acquired helped make his career path much more flexible. It definitely opened up more doors for him now. Mr. Arifin shared his ambition, "I'm also considering what else I should do with the knowledge that I've learnt. Should I join another company? Should I set up my own consulting firm? In terms of my career, it has opened up a whole new world of opportunities".
To date, Mr. Arifin has completed his PDERP program and is currently pursuing his Master of Business (ERP Systems). While he finds the classes flexible, he admits that the workload can be daunting. Fortunately, with proper time management, he is able to manage his studies. "I hope to complete (the Masters) in the shortest time possible,"he spoke of his goals.
Although his title and responsibility as a System Administrator remains the same, the opportunities in his career is endless. He is now more well-equipped with valuable skills to take on greater range of projects with much more confidence than ever before, contributing significantly to his company and his career growth.

In my current job, I am hoping that my company will see me as a potential after this course, and they will give me more responsibilities or projects or perhaps even a promotion to get into higher management level.
Completing the program in Professional Diploma in ERP (PDERP) has given Lukman the opportunity for academic progress. It has also given him a stronger career foundation. " Taking the PDERP is giving me more exposure in my current job scope. As an end-user, I was just confined in that space,"Lukman said. Lukman is a man that strives for excellence. One of his objectives for taking up the PDERP is to allow him to advance his career. Upon completion of the program, Lukman moved on to take up the Master of Business (Enterprise Resource Planning Systems).
The program has been very beneficial to Lukman. He commented that the program had increased his knowledge of the SAP ERP world. It also gave him more insights into the subject. Lukman mentioned that lessons were well conducted by Mr. Satish Nair. Currently, Lukman is working in the electrical engineering industry. His job scope encompass using the SAP system as an end-user for making purchase orders, giving out work orders and also using it for projects. Lukman has his sights on attaining a managerial role.
Previously, this would have been an uphill task without a PDERP qualification. However, with PDERP and MERP that he is taking now, it would put him in a much better position in attaining his goal. "In my current job, I am hoping that my company will see me as a potential after this course, and they will give me more responsibilities or projects or perhaps even a promotion to get into higher management level,".
Having this qualification would give him an edge over other potential candidates. Lukman also wishes to contribute to the best of his ability to the company he is working for in terms of knowledge and skills.

When Mr. Nizam took a break from the financial accounting modules of SAP, he enrolled in Lithan Hall Academy's Professional Diploma in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
"PDERP was like a refresher course for me," he recounted. He enjoyed the opportunity to learn new skills within the SAP system. He recognized that SAP is a large and complex software; the financial accounting module he had been working with for the past years in his work is but only one fraction of the entire system. The sales and distribution course he took, for example, was a different yet highly practical module inside SAP ERP.
Mr. Nizam agreed that the skills and competencies acquired from this program helped him tremendously in his career enhancement. He acquired additional skills like sales and distribution, ABAP programming and basic administration. This allowed him to be more competent in developing a career, not only within a small module but the whole scope of the SAP ERP (System). Armed with more comprehensive knowledge, he is more proficient in working with minute details of the modules and getting the big picture of the ERP system.
"I was doing mainly financial accounting work in SAP, but I am currently the team lead for procurement," Mr. Nizam spoke of how the course had changed and improved his career life. Upon completion of the program, Mr. Nizam was trusted with more sophisticated projects to handle. His current project encompasses skills he acquired from the course such as sales and distribution and materials management modules.
He considers it to be a big career switch within the company and a career upgrade too, to a certain extent. "It's both lateral and vertical,"Mr. Nizam summarized what being able to move from module to module within the SAP system was like for him.
Mr. Nizam has decided to pursue a Master of Business (ERP Systems) upon completion of the PDERP Program. The skills he garnered have been beneficial to the growth of his career and he enjoyed being taught by Lithan Hall Academy's lecturers too. He spoke fondly of Mr. Satish, who taught him ABAP Programming and Business Intelligence. "They are wonderful lecturers, I gained a lot from them. … They have left a lot of lasting impression not only on me but on the other students as well."

I keep learning things by heart... Until... I get this opportunity from Workforce Development Agency (WDA). I'm so happy to continue.
Mr. Isshamudin took seven years to learn IT all by himself before being offered the opportunity to take the Express IT course at Lithan Hall Academy.
Mr. Isshamudin worked as a freelancer, troubleshooting IT-related problems such as programs, networking, windows and servers. He worked in homes and occasionally landed small contracts with companies. Having been in the IT field for several years, he always had a fervent interest in IT. However, it had been difficult for him to get professional training due to financial constraints. He taught himself IT."I keep learning things by heart… Until… I get this opportunity from Workforce Development Agency (WDA). I'm so happy to continue," he said.
He appreciates the teaching style of his lecturers. Mr. Isshamudin spoke highly of Mr. Jayrus Pasamba, "he's quite detailed and helps us understand what we really need to know."Other than Mr. Jayrus, Mr. Isshamudin also enjoyed Mr. Alvin Koh Chee Keong's lessons. He liked how the lecturer provided the relevant examples and associations to enhance his understanding of the subject.
To date, Mr. Isshamudin is a contracted technician with Hewlett-Packard (HP). His current job scope includes troubleshooting and server management. Armed with the knowledge and skills from the Express IT course, Mr. Isshamudin is now able to pinpoint more precisely the cause of technical problems and provide a quick solution for his clients.

Faizal worked in an engineering company as an assistant engineer after he graduated from Temasek Polytechnic. However, he only stayed in that job for a few months before he left. This is because his interest shifted from engineering to IT. Faizal came across the Express IT program on the Internet and it piqued his curiosity. He attended a seminar conducted by Lithan Hall Academy, where he decided to join the program.
Today, Faizal is a permanent employee as an IT executive in Beauty Language. His responsibility is to maintain the database to ensure the integrity of the data. He is also required to perform troubleshooting should there be any errors. "Some of the skills I learned in the troubleshooting module did help me in some ways,"Faizal said, as he recalled the troubleshooting lessons he took under the Express IT program. He acknowledged that the Express IT program played a role in helping him get his current job.
Faizal plans to take more courses on networking and server management in the near future. He says that he would be keen to study further at Lithan Hall Academy should there be courses offered that are related to his interest. CCNA is an example.
"If I can make it, then why not?"he said. Faizal sees himself working as a computer networking professional five years down the road. He views his current job at Beauty Language as a great stepping stone towards a longer term career goal in networking or server management.
IT is always growing and there are always endless opportunities in IT. I feel like this is definitely one of those things that I should get into
Hafiz is a diploma holder in the science field. However, he realized that having a degree in Science is required for better career prospects in that industry. So, he decided to try other industries.'
Hafiz spent two years to explore his options. He tried working in the airline industry doing aircraft maintenance. However, it was not long before he found out that the prospects for the job were bleak as he was not technically proficient in that field. So, he changed jobs and worked in the education sector as a co-curriculum executive in a school. His job scope was to make sure that the CCA records for the students were submitted on time and also to organize field trips for them when required. Unfortunately, it was hard for Hafiz to progress in the education sector as he would need to have qualifications that are specialized in education.
Eventually, Hafiz decided to enter the IT industry by signing up for the Express IT program. "In that whole total of two years working and having seen what it's like out there, I felt that IT is one of the best way forward," he said. Currently, Hafiz is now working in HP services as a staging technician. His job scope is to prepare computers for the deployment teams. "IT is always growing and there are always endless opportunities in IT. I feel like this is definitely one of those things that I should get into," Hafiz said confidently.
During his stay at Lithan Hall Academy, Hafiz learned how computers and other hardware interconnect with one another. He also learned about the OSI model and why learning it was extremely important and beneficial for him. This is because troubleshooting is an important practical skill in his target job role in the IT industry. "That's probably one of the things that will be very useful in terms of knowledge when it comes to troubleshooting . . . because after all in IT, what matters is getting things up and running," Hafiz said.
Hafiz has already planned ahead for himself. He intends to learn and get more exposure in the field of IT as much as he can. He plans to take another course to upgrade his qualifications further after he has completed the current one.
"Taking on more courses will enable me to climb higher into the industry and see what's available out there," Hafiz said.

"My future plan is . . . to widen my knowledge about IT and perhaps I could even go deeper into it, and hopefully I can be an IT professional," Mr. Rosli said. He has developed new aspirations for his career after completing the Express IT program. This is a milestone for Mr. Rosli, who did not have a background in IT.
Mr. Rosli started off his career in the service industry. After being in the industry for several years, he found that the service industry was not lucrative. Then he decided to move on to do sales. Because of his wealth of experience in the service industry, Mr. Rosli did very well in sales. The clients loved him as he treated them with sincerity.
Unfortunately, his company had to shut down and he was retrenched. Since then, Mr. Rosli did not get employed after several years. He chanced upon education consultant Mahipal from Lithan Hall Academy when he visited a job fair in Tampines. At that time, signing up for an education course was the last thing on Mr. Rosli's mind. He was more concerned about getting employed in a job. Fortunately, Mahipal convinced Mr. Rosli to take up the Express IT program as the first step to a career in IT.
Initially, it wasn't easy for Mr. Rosli to settle down in a classroom setting that emphasizes on IT education. It was due to his fear for the subject. However, nurturing and committed instructors in Lithan Hall Academy eased Mr. Rosli's fear and made him feel comfortable in the new environment. "Nara thinks so much about the students' welfare," he said. The instructors made sure that they always go the extra mile to answer any doubts that the students may have. "These are the kind of instructors or lecturers that make you feel at home . . . I miss Lithan Hall seriously,"Mr. Rosli said excitedly.
Mr. Rosli landed a job that deals with imaging soon after completing the Express IT program. To date, he has moved on to deployment, which is more rigorous and demanding and requires him to set up computers. This was taboo for Mr. Rosli previously but Lithan Hall has given Mr. Rosli the basic skills and confidence necessary to tackle the myriad of problems and challenges in his new job.
"That [confidence] makes me feel much more open. I become more flexible . . . I am no longer rigid,"he said. Mr. Rosli commented enthusiastically that he now has greater aspirations to become an IT professional. He hopes to further his studies with Lithan Hall Academy.

Shafiee set his sights on a career in IT but was clueless about how to take the first step to change his career path. After being in the workforce for more than ten years, Mr. Shafiee has experienced a diverse range of industries. He signed on first as an army regular on sponsorship for around seven to eight years before moving on to the Food and Beverage (F&B) industry. There, he rapidly advanced from assistant manager to chef during the five to six years he was there.
However, when he learned about Lithan Hall Academy, he attended one of the school's career seminars to learn about how to venture into the IT industry, which is what he always wanted. At the talk, he met Adeline, one of Lithan Hall Academy's education consultants, who gave him advice on how to begin switching his career path. "You need to know the basics first," he remembered her advice.
To learn the basics, Shafiee decided to enroll in the Express IT program. Set on realizing his IT dreams, Shafiee took a leap of faith. He resigned from his job as a chef in the F&B industry and enrolled in the Express IT program.
During the duration of the course, Lithan Hall assisted Shafiee to look for a company who will employ him. After just a few weeks since enrolling, he did several interviews from different companies. And one month after enrolling, he got a job as a data operator at Excellink. He had taken his first step into IT.
Accepting the job offer meant that Mr. Shafiee worked and studied at the same time. As the sole breadwinner of his family, having a job relieves some financial burden off his shoulder. Ever the determined man, he understands that while the IT industry offers a desirable career path, he must invest a lot of effort into studying as he is learning IT from scratch.
"I'm happy to study again, mingle around with friends, and know more about IT," Shafiee said. To attend classes again was an exciting experience for him. His lecturer, Mr. Alvin, taught in a manner that allowed him to readily understand the basics, such as cables, networks, servers, IP addresses, and more.
These eventually proved to be useful skills for Shafiee's current responsibility as a data operator. As a hands-on person, he hopes to be able to progress to be an IT engineer or IT technician eventually. This requires a lot of hard work and dedication to learning; something Mr. Shafiee is brimming with.
He loves his first taste of an IT job. He is now able to balance his time between work and family. "This is the life I want in IT … you get more time with your family." As he continues his lifelong learning, he hopes to learn more at Lithan Hall Academy.

Sreelakshmi is a permanent resident who have moved to Singapore from India in the year 2009. Despite having a degree in computer science, she encountered difficulty in getting employed with her qualifications. She came to realize that it is due to her lack of local experience in the Singapore IT industry. She had to settle with a job as an administrative assistant, even though it was not what she was looking for. Her job scope includes calling up customers and dealling with the billing systems. She was unable to get any work satisfaction from her job. " When I came home . . . I don't have the work satisfaction because everyday going office, calling customers, getting the feedback, I didn't feel good," Sreelakshmi said.
Fortunately, she got to know about the Express IT course in Lithan Hall Academy through one of her colleagues, who was working in the IT industry. She finally made a trip to Lithan Hall Academy where she met her education consultant, Mahipal. Mahipal gave her a clear explanation about the basic criteria on what was required for an IT career in Singapore. Eventually, Sreelakshmi signed up for the Express IT program. Upon starting the class, Sreelakshmi quickly realized that even though she has the knowledge in theory, she had no practical knowledge. She is grateful for the help and guidance from the lecturers, particularly, Mr. V.N.S. Nara, for his tireless effort in guiding her. " If I were to ask three or four times . . . he would see it as if I have asked for the first time," Sreelakshmi said.
During the recruitment drive after her completion of the program, about 8 employers approached her for employment opportunities. Amongst the companies that approached her, there were smaller companies that offered interesting job profiles. However, the job offer as a system operator in a data center from IBM caught her attention and she accepted the offer.
Sreelakshmi is an excellent employee at IBM. She took a proactive approach towards her job, actively building strong rapport with the people there. " If you go now to the data center and you say Sree, everybody knows me!"Sreelakshmi said excitedly. She does her work diligently and offers a helping hand with tasks that people are facing difficulty to cope with.
Moving forward, Sreelakshmi would like to learn more and delve deeper into the topic on network backup. " I find network backup very interesting," she said. Sreelakshmi has benefitted immensely from her stay in Lithan Hall Academy and she strongly recommends it to any one who is facing difficulty in finding a job or wishes to progress in their careers. " If you are looking for a job, Lithan Hall Academy is the best, which can put you in the right path," Sreelakshmi says with conviction.
Mr. Monsoer began his career in the electronic engineering industry, which is a very competitive industry. He has been a great employee with Starhub, working with the Telco Company as a Cable Television Helpdesk technician for the past five years. However, the job did not give Mr. Monsoer the job satisfaction and career progress he seeks.
"Working in Starhub, it is a big company, but the thing is the job is stagnant,"he said. Eventually, he left Starhub in search of a better opportunity. Finding another job in the electronic engineering industry was not easy for Mr. Monsoer. The industry has progressed tremendously, and the qualifications that Mr. Monsoer had quickly became insufficient.
Fortunately, Mr. Monsoer is a person who strives for further self-improvement, and is also equipped with the willingness to learn. He decided to give himself a challenge in the IT industry. He was referred to the Express IT Program in Lithan Hall Academy by one of his colleague. Mr. Monsoer took up the program without any hesitation after the education consultant explained to Mr. Monsoer clearly about the career opportunities of the IT industry.
Currently, Mr. Monsoer is an IT helpdesk technician in D&S Solution, and is being deployed to Bukit Batok Polyclinic. The responsibility of his job is to assist the front end-users on troubleshooting, resolving software and hardware conflicts. Working and studying at the same time has enabled Mr. Monsoer to apply the things that he has learnt in the classroom into the practical field. "I want to study as well as work, so that I can apply what I study," he said confidently. Lessons that are conducted effectively also help to speed up Mr. Monsoer's learning process. Mr. Koh Chee Keong, who has 11 years of teaching experience under his belt, conducted the lectures that Mr. Monsoer attends. Mr. Monsoer found the lessons very well conducted and clearly delivered.
Mr. Monsoer looks forward to furthering his studies and obtaining professional diplomas that is being offered by Lithan Hall Academy after completing the Express IT program. Mr. Monsoer is happy with his current placement and he would recommend his friends to Lithan Hall Academy should they be interested in the IT industry. "I would recommend them to this college," he said. "It's a good contribution by WDA, I mean it helps Singaporeans a lot," Mr. Monsoer expresses his thoughts gratefully.
When Ms. Chia Xian Min was sponsored by her company to attend the Professional Diploma in Technopreneurship Program, she was glad she went for it. The skills and knowledge she acquired served as a great asset to her start-up company.
The technical skills she acquired from this program was very much applicable in a promising start-up company." As a start-up, you have many things to take note (of)," she acknowledged. She learnt about how to come up with a good and feasible business idea and how to pen a solid business proposal. "This course actually teaches you some ways and … areas for you to be focused (on) and construct the things you're supposed to be (constructing) so you can do up a good proposal for your investors," she said.
In addition to these practical skills, Ms. Chia has also gained a wealth of financial knowledge from the Professional Diploma in Technopreneurship Program. Working with a start up, you (will) learn key things that you usually don't learn from multinational companies... I am still learning from my colleagues and boss the best practices for running or growing a business. ... I am very thankful for this program which let(s) me match up with this very wonderful company.
Having diverse experiences and job titles under his belt, one would have never expected Mr. Geok Loon Ching to suddenly switch industries. The entrepreneur bravely made the switch from a declining industry to a rising industry and do not regret his life-changing decision.
Prior to taking the Professional Diploma in Technopreneurship course, Mr. Geok worked in the manufacturing industry. With more than thirteen years of experience under his belt, he had been a technical writer, a system engineer, an operation supervisor and a trainer.
The right time came for Mr. Geok when he received Lithan Hall Academy's newsletter introducing the Professional Diploma in Technopreneurship course. He was particularly interested in the fact that it is a "Place-and-Train" program. The program also combines learning technopreneurship in class as well as within a tech startup environment; the best place to learn.
He resigned from his job and promptly signed up for the program. He has never looked back since. Mr. Geok recalled the hiring process to be a fast one. Within two weeks of attending an interview, he began working with a startup company; Teamie.
His risk paid off as the course met his personal expectations. "I find the course very helpful for people like me," he said, referring to people who want to become technopreneurs. "I will say that I am very happy because the program is going quite well,"he said.
Mr. Geok recognized the risks and losses he made while switching careers. Ever the wise business man, Mr. Geok took it in his stride, "Of course there will some salary reduction but I take it as an investment." He had expected a decrease in salary when he embarked on this new path to technopreneurship, but the loss was worth it. "I don't earn as much as my previous job … but when I join this start up, I am given a role I am happy with and have a chance to work with wonderful people, colleagues and bosses who taught me some new knowledge and skills."
Satisfied with his current job at Teamie, he also wishes to continue growing together with the startup. For Mr. Geok, learning happens in both classes and the workplace. "Working with a start up, you (will) learn key things that you usually don't learn from multinational companies… I am still learning from my colleagues and boss the best practices for running or growing a business. … I am very thankful for this program which let(s) me match up with this very wonderful company."
His favorite module was Venture Creation, taught by his favorite lecturer, Mr. Douglas Abrams. "He is everyone's favorite because he has a number of years of experience in teaching; he knows how to teach a class," he remembered fondly.
Mr. Geok recommends this course to people who are uncertain about making the jump to technopreneurship. "You never know if the startup company that you join will grow tremendously within the next three years. You'll be reaping all the rewards by being in the right places."

Mr. Sim Wee Leng is someone who is brimming with brilliant ideas for a business but has no idea on how to realize his concepts. Power is nothing without control, which is true. Since enrolling in Lithan Hall Academy's Professional Diploma in Technopreneurship more than a year ago, Mr. Sim learnt how to harness the power of his ideas and put them into actual plan. "The most interesting thing I benefited from this course was how to translate an idea into a business plan and with perseverance, it actually materialized." This has been an area that he had always wanted to pursue.
Mr. Sim gained practical skills throughout the course. He was given the opportunity to put his skills into practice. "When I embarked on this course, I translated my idea into a business plan and that helped me identify if the ideas were feasible in the real business world".
The Professional Diploma in Technopreneurship Mr. Sim completed also provided him the knowledge and practical skills in sales and marketing, which will help him to enter the market with his ideas. The program also allowed Mr. Sim to collaborate with other like-minded aspiring start-ups and be mentored by experienced investors and industry practitioners.
"My favourite lecturer is Douglas,"he spoke of Lithan Hall Academy's Mr. Douglas Abrams. He enjoyed how Mr. Abrams taught in a methodical and orderly manner. "He actually taught us systematically on how to translate an idea into words, (then) into a business plan," Mr. Sim recounted his learning experience with Mr. Abrams.
However, Mr. Sim recognizes that everything he learns is nothing without an essential ingredient of the technopreneurship mix. "If you don't persist, it will always be only an idea."
