Interoperable

The intentional lack of interoperability between education systems is, in business parlance, called lock-in. And as long as everything works, and we can do whatever we need to do within a closed ecosystem; we may not even know or care that we are locked-in. However, the promise of education to engage learners, enhance learning, improve outcomes, and, ultimately, give students a better life—all hinges on interoperability. Attempting to deliver on that promise with disparate education systems that do not interoperate is like the United Nations working without language translators. Addressing interoperability in education systems is a bit like achieving world peace. Everyone agrees on the ultimate outcome, student achievement.
