As a part of module project, learner shall be able to implement Domain Name resolution, DHCP, IPAM. in addition to remote access solutions, such as VPN and Direct Access. It also covers DFS and BranchCache solutions, high performance network features and functionality, and implementation of software-defined networking (SDN) solutions with the guidance of experienced Mentors. Learner shall also prepare relevant technical and user documentation related to the project.

NICF - Configure Advanced Server

The objective of this module is to provide  the fundamental networking skills required to deploy and support Windows Server 2016 in most organizations. It covers IP fundamentals, remote access technologies, and more advanced content including Software Defined Networking.   

 

This course focuses on on the networking features and functionality available in Windows Server 2016 such as Domain name resolution, DHCP, and IPAM implementations, in addition to remote access solutions, such as VPN and Direct Access. It also covers DFS and BranchCache solutions, high performance network features and functionality, and implementation of software-defined networking (SDN) solutions, such as Hyper-V Network Virtualization (HNV) and Network Controller in Windows Server 2016 environments.       

 

This module is part of the WSQ Qualification Course NICF Diploma in IT Services (System Support). This module can be offered as part of the above Qualification or independently as Modular Course. This module contains 11 instructional units and is delivered in blended mode. The learning journey is described in the session plan.   This course also provides hands-on preparation for Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate MCSA 70-741: Networking with Windows Server 2016 exam.  

 

The learner shall perform e-learning and lab exercises for each of the Instructional Units with online support from the Tutors. Subsequently, the learner shall perform a modular project with the guidance of an Industry expert who play the role of Project Tutor.

Session 1: Orientation & Lecture - Live (2 hours)

The student has to attend a Live Orientation Session conducted at LA campus or go through a recording of the Orientation Session.

After the Orientation, the Lecturer will introduce the module by conducting the lecture on:

  • IU 1: Implementing Advanced Network Services

During session: The Student will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour)

  • Implementing advanced network services

Session 2: Lecture – Live (1 hour, 30 minutes)

The lecturer will deliver lectures & demo  in the class room related to the topics of corresponding IU:

  • IU 2: Implementing Advanced File Services

During session: The students will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

  • Implementing advanced file services
  • Implementing branch cache

Session 3: Lecture – Live (1 hour, 30 minutes)

The lecturer will deliver lectures & demo  in the class room related to the topics of corresponding IU:

  • IU 3: Implementing Dynamic Access Control

During session: The Student will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

  • Implementing dynamic access control

The lecturer will deliver lectures & demo  in the class room related to the topics of corresponding IU:

  • IU 4: Implementing Distributed Active Directory Domain Services Deployments

During session: The Student will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

  • Implementing distributed AD DS deployments

Session 5: Lecture – Live (1 hr, 30 minutes)

  • IU 5: Implementing Active Directory Domain Services Sites and Replication

During session: The Student will perform the following functions in the server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

  • Implement AD DS sites and replication

Session 6: Lecture – Live (1 hour, 30 minutes)

The lecturer will deliver lectures & demo  in the class room related to the topics of corresponding IU:

  • IU 6: Implementing Active Directory Certificate Services

During session: The Student will perform the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

  • Deploying and configuring CA hierarchy
  • Deploying and managing certificates

Session 7: Lecture – Live (1 hour, 30 minutes)

The lecturer will deliver lectures & demo  in the class room related to the topics of corresponding IU:

  • IU 7Implementing Active Directory Rights Management Services  

During session: The students will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

  • Implementing AD RMS 

Session 8: Lecture - Live (1 hour, 30 minutes)

The lecturer will deliver lectures & demo  in the class room related to the topics of corresponding IU: 

  • IU 8: Implementing Active Directory Federation Services 

During session: The students will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

  • Implementing active directory federation services

  • IU 9: Implementing Network Load Balancing 

During session: The students will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

During session: The students will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):  

  • Implementing failover clustering

Session 11:Lecture - Live (1 hour, 30 minutes)

The lecturer will deliver lectures & demo  in the class room related to the topics of corresponding IU: 

  • IU11: Implementing Failover Clustering with Hyper-V

During session: The students will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):    

  • Implementing failover clustering with hyper V

  • IU 12Implementing Disaster Recovery

During session: The students will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):      

  • Implementing windows server backup and restore 

 

Session 13: Summative assessment (3 Hours)

Students will  attempt a Theory Test (45 mins) & a Practical Test (2 hrs) 

During session: Assessor will review and provide feedback (15 mins)

By end of this module, the learner should be able to gain the following knowledge:

  • Planning IPv4 addressing & Configuring an IPv4 host.
  • Managing and troubleshooting DHCP.
  • Configuring DNS integration with Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS).
  • Implement and manage Direct Access in Windows Server 2016.
  • Implementing networking for branch offices.    

By end of this module, the learner should be able to apply the following skills:

  • Plan and implement an IPv4 and IPv6 network.
  • Implement Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Domain Name System (DNS).
  • Implement and manage IP address management (IPAM).
  • Plan & implement Remote access and Direct Access.
  • Implement virtual private networks (VPNs) and networking for branch offices.
  • Implement Software Defined Networking.
