As a part of module project learners will  covers the Installation and configuration of Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), in addition to Group Policy implementation for non-Nano Server environments. It also covers functionality such as Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS), Active Directory Federations Services (AD FS), Active Directory Rights Management Services, implement WSUS update in a simulated environment as part of module project.

NICF - Administer Server

This modular course focuses on the administration tasks necessary to maintain a Windows Server 2016 infrastructure such as how to deploy and configure Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) in a distributed environment, how to implement Group Policy, how to perform backup and restore, and how to monitor and troubleshoot Active Directory–related issues with Windows Server 2016. Additionally, this course teaches students how to deploy other Active Directory server roles, such as Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) and Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS).  

 

This module is part of the WSQ Qualification Course NICF Diploma in IT Services (System Support). This course provides hands-on preparation for Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA): Exam 70-742: Identity with Windows Server 2016, 

 

This module contains 14 instructional units and is delivered in blended mode. The learning journey is described in the session plan.   The learner shall perform e-learning and lab exercises for each of the Instructional Units with online support from the Tutors. Subsequently, the learner shall perform a modular project with the guidance of an Industry expert who play the role of Project Tutor.

Session Outline Activities

Session 1: Orientation & Lecture - Live (2 hours, 15 minutes)

The student has to attend a Live Orientation Session conducted at LA campus or go through a recording of the Orientation Session.

After the Orientation, the Lecturer will introduce the module by conducting the lectures on:

  • IU 1:  Deploying and Maintaining Server I mages

During session: The Student will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (45 minutes):

  • Using windows deployment services to deploy windows server 2012

 

Session 2: Lecture – Live (1 hour, 30 minutes)

The lecturer will deliver lectures & demo  in the class room related to the topics of corresponding IU:

  • IU 2: Configuring and Troubleshooting Domain Name System

During session: The Student will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

  • Configuring and trouble shooting DNS

Session 3: Lecture – Live (1 hour, 30 minutes)

The lecturer will deliver lectures & demo  in the class room related to the topics of corresponding IU: 

  • IU3: Maintaining Active Directory Domain Services

During session: The Student will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

  • Managing user and service accounts

  • IU5: Implementing Group Policy Infrastructure

  • IU 6: Managing User Desktops with Group Policy

During session: The Student will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

  • Managing user desktops with group policy 

 

Session 7:Lecture - live (1 hour, 30 minutes)

  • IU 7: Configuring and Troubleshooting Remote Access

 

During session: The Student will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

  • Configuring remote access and direct access   

Session 8 : Lecture - Live (1 hour, 30 minutes)

The lecturer will deliver lectures & demo  in the class room related to the topics of corresponding IU:

  • IU 8Installing, configuring and troubleshooting the network policy server role

During session: The Student will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

  • Installing, configuring monitoring and troubleshooting the network policy server

Session 9: Lecture - Live (1 hour, 30 minutes)

The lecturer will deliver lectures & demo  in the class room related to the topics of corresponding IU:

  • IU 9: Implementing Network Access Protection

During session: The Student will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

  • Implementing NAP

Session 10: lecture - Live (1 hour, 30 minutes)

  • IU 10Optimizing File Services

During session: The Student will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

  • Configuring quotas and file screening using FSRM
  • Implementing DFS 

Session 11: Lecture - live (1 hour, 30 minutes)

The lecturer will deliver lectures & demo  in the class room related to the topics of corresponding IU:

  • IU 11Configuring Encryption and Advanced Auditing

During session: The Student will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

  • Configuring encryption and advanced auditing

The lecturer will deliver lectures & demo  in the class room related to the topics of corresponding IUs :

  • IU 12Implementing Update Management
  • IU 13: Monitoring Windows Server 2012

During session: The Student will practice the following functions in server lab enviornment (1 hour, 30 minutes):

  • Implementing update management
  • Monitoring windows server 2012

Session 13 : Summative Assessment (3 Hours)

Students will  attempt a Theory Test (45 mins) & a Practical Test (2 hrs) 

During session: Assessor will review and provide feedback (15 mins)

  • Overview of AD DS domain controllers
  • Managing user accounts and groups in AD DS
  • Configuring and monitoring AD DS replication
  • Implementing and administering GPOs
  • Deploying and administering CAs
  • Deploying and configuring AD FS
  • Deploying and managing an AD RMS infrastructure
  • Implementing directory synchronization by using Azure AD Connect
  • Monitoring, managing, and recovering AD DS
  • Explain the WSUS update management process.    

By end of this module, the learner should be able to apply the following skills:

  • Install and configure domain controllers. Manage objects in AD DS by using graphical tools and Windows PowerShell.
  • Implement AD DS in complex environments. Implement AD DS sites and configure and manage replication.
  • Implement and manage Group Policy Objects (GPOs). Manage user settings by using GPOs.
  • Secure AD DS and user accounts. Implement and manage a certificate authority (CA) hierarchy with AD CS.
  • Deploy and manage certificates. Implement and administer AD FS. Implement and administer Active Directory Rights Management Services (AD RMS).
  • Implement synchronization between AD DS and Azure AD.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and establish business continuity for AD DS services.
  • Implementing WSUS and deploying updates.
