Holy Angel University (HAU) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with eduCLaaS Pte Ltd, the international subsidiary of Lithan Academy from Singapore, in the joint offering of Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering and Master’s Degree in Digital System during a virtual signing ceremony held on 24 March 2021.
The partnership will provide an enhancement on the HAU’s program offering of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Major in Web Development (undergraduate) and Professional Science Master's in Cybersecurity (graduate level) with internationally accredited course materials and personalized mentoring of Lithan faculty members. The collaboration also aims to produce experienced and work-ready graduates for the digital global industry with the Students Apprenticeship Program.
CLaaS® delivers Competency Learning as a Service to support digital upskilling for higher education students, working adults, and enterprises in the digital economy. It adopts work-based learning pedagogy with a competency-based curriculum for a blended learning journey that delivers tangible career and business outcomes.
eduCLaaS’s Founder and CEO, Leslie Loh said “Modern employers require plug-and-play graduates who can be productive from the first day of the job. Our 1+3 work study degrees deliver seamless job induction before graduation: with 1 year of intensive skills acquisition bootcamp and 3 years of on-the-job training at the workplace. Our learners are Glocal (Global yet Local) digital talents as they engage in borderless learning and working, alongside international learners and employers, supported by over 50 regional campuses from across Asia.”
He further added, “We welcome Holy Angel University Philippines in joining our Pan-Asia eduCLaaS platform for incubating Glocal (Global yet Local) digital talents ready for growth in the post-Covid digital economy.”
In his welcome remarks, HAU President, Dr. Luis Maria R. Calingo, stated, “According to the World Economic Forum, the three most important skills for the future are creativity, problem solving, and critical thinking. To the three R’s of reading, writing, and arithmetic, HAU adds two other Rs – Respect and Responsibility. All these imperatives are stated in our university mission statement of transforming our students into persons of conscience with warm hearts, persons of competence with informed minds, and persons of compassion with loving hands. Operationally, this translates to four core competencies that our graduates will need to demonstrate after graduation. They are critical thinking, creative thinking, effective communication, and effective interaction. Our commitment to educational partnerships is a key aspect of our educational approach, especially when our partners have strengths in those areas in which we do not have adequate capabilities.”
“We are thrilled with our engagement with Lithan Academy because this will help us in accelerating the workforce readiness of our students particularly in the School of Computing. I look forward to a successful educational partnership with the Lithan Academy so that, in the end, the fruits of this partnership would be available to the other students of Holy Angel University.”
"There's actually a fine line between working and learning in the future and we want to be able to deliver a learning journey wherein people would ‘work to learn’ rather than ‘learn to work’, so that they'll be able to get into the industry earlier rather than later. We can't do that on our own. Essentially, we want to work with universities in the country that will be able to provide the facility as well as the student community that we could actually work with," as shared by Mr. Leslie Loh, eduCLaaS’ Founder and CEO, who also delivered a message during the signing ceremony.
“The HAU-Lithan Academy partnership is an evidence of the University's commitment to provide our students the holistic development of their competencies and skills set to prepare them for local and international work opportunities. The work-integrated and work-oriented curriculum prepares them in facing the demands of a globally competitive workforce,” Ms. Edna Marriza Santos, Assistant to the President shared.
“We are excited about our partnership with Lithan. We at Holy Angel University—School of Computing are always after the betterment of the skills of our students; as the university mantra goes, ‘We are all about students.’ We have faith in their [Lithan] business ideas and we promise to do the best of our abilities to cooperate and make this a strong partnership in the service of our students,” Dr. Francisco Napalit, SOC Dean said.
